Four Gisborne Intermediate School students returned from the Bay of Plenty/Poverty Bay Intermediate Schools Lake Swim in Lake Rotoma with gold, silver and bronze medals.
The medals were gained in races covering two kilometres.
Ella Sutton won gold and Chloe Moore won silver in the Year 7 girls' swim, JeromeTamatea won bronze in the Year 7 boys' swim and Sierra Blumfield won bronze in the Year 8 girls' swim.
“Endurance, stamina and, on the final leg, speed all played a crucial part in these achievements,” supervising teacher Shawn Norris said.
Eleven schools from Gisborne, Rotorua, Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Te Puke, Otumoetai and Whakatane took part.
