No.4 Matt Foster, with 34 off 32, was the Stars’ third batsman to score at better than a run a ball.
Foster, Barbier and Spring all retired.
The Broncos two wicket-takers were Luke Hurlstone (1-17 off 5 overs including a maiden over) and fellow right-arm seamer Cohen Loffler (1-26 off 4).
In response, left-handed opener Te Reimana Gray hit three boundaries and a six in a quality innings of 28 retired from 30 balls — the Broncos’ best individual effort.
Off-spinner Spring (2-9 off 2.3), leg-spinner Barbier (1-18 off 3), medium-pacers Knight (1-21 off 3) and Foster (1-24 off 5) were great value with the ball for the Stars.
“The boys’ are starting to find their feet, this being their second go in 30-over cricket after the T15 games,” said Poverty Bay men’s senior wicketkeeper/batsman Bruce Kerr.
“Hopefully they keep this standard of improvement going.”
Poverty Bay senior left-arm orthodox spinner Matt Crampton was similarly impressed.
“I saw very smart cricket and some lovely shots played,” he said. “The bowlers, too, were outstanding.”
