GGHS in playoff for third/fourth

Gisborne Girls’ High School fell just short of making the final at the Jenny Hair Cup secondary schoolgirls’ hockey tournament in Carterton yesterday.

GGHS were beaten 1-0 by Wellington Girls’ College, the goal coming from a penalty corner in the ninth minute of extra time. GGHS were to face Wellington East Girls’ College today in the playoff for third and fourth.

Gisborne Boys’ High were to play St John’s College (Hastings) in a playoff for seventh and eighth at the Woolaston Trophy in Levin today.

GBHS lost 2-1 to Waiuku College yesterday in their fifth-to-eighth semifinal.

Campion College lost 2-0 to Henderson High at the North Island mixed tournament in Whanganui yesterday. It put them into a playoff against Stratford High for seventh and eighth.

A Gisborne Girls’ High/Campion combined team were to face Tauhara College this morning for fifth and sixth at the Rosemary O’Brien tournament in Gisborne.

Games weekend postponed

The Federation Talent Centre (FTC) under-10 and u11 games weekend that was to be held at Nelson Park tomorrow and on Sunday has been postponed because of the wet weather.

Central Football Gisborne operations manager Neil Aitkenhead said it was hoped to host the games on September 22 and 23.
