GISBORNE sporting stars of the future get plenty of opportunity to develop. In the past week, young sporting men and women have had events in lightweight rugby, primary school badminton and a Gisborne Boys’ High School invitational surfing competition that drew entries from Taranaki and Bay of Plenty.
LIGHTWEIGHT RUGBY: Gisborne Intermediate School yesterday hosted the Bay of Plenty/Poverty Bay Schools Lightweight Rugby Festival for 10-a-side teams. The festival was created for those students who often miss out on further rugby due to their light build and gives them an opportunity to showcase their skills against students of similar stature. Ilminster, Gisborne, Tauranga, Mt Maunganui, Mokoia, Taupo, Taradale and Heretaunga intermediate schools took part.
