No titles for Gisborne surfersGisborne surfers have returned home empty-handed from the national scholastic championships in Raglan.

Finn Vette was the only Gisborne surfer involved in a final on the last day of the contest held in 1.5-metre waves at Manu Bay.

Vette finished fourth in the final of the under-16 boys’ division. He posted 9.55 out of a possible 20 for his two best waves. The final was won by Raglan’s Kora Cooper (13.75) from Whangarei’s Tom Robinson (11.95) and Christchurch’s Myka Black (9.95).

Gisborne pair Hannah King (7.60) and Daizee Rawls (6.46) were third and fourth respectively in the same u16 girls’ semifinal and were eliminated.

Stella Smith (7.8) was knocked out in the semifinals of the u18 girls’ division.

Waikato topped the team standings, with Gisborne seventh.

Up for ExerciseNZ awardsYMCA Gisborne and Gisborne Harriers Club have been named as finalists in the New Zealand exercise industry awards.

The YMCA is in the facility of the year category, for facilities that are part of a chain.

Gisborne Harriers and Cardio Coach have been nominated for an innovation award for their weekly group fitness class run by Cardio Coach owner Michelle Rennie.

The winners from the ExerciseNZ event will be announced in Auckland on November 23.
