GISBORNE Speedway Club has cancelled tonight’s Speedweek saloon car championship meeting due to the threat of further rain, and club president Grant MacGregor says club members are gutted about it.

The Holden Trade Club Saloon Speedweek series started in Stratford on Boxing Day and moved on to Palmerston North on Wednesday. However, a meeting scheduled for Napier last night was rained out.

MacGregor said the Gisborne club had hoped to leave a decision until later today but the forecast had convinced them to cancel the meeting. It was extremely disappointing.

He had spoken to the series promoter and, all being well, Gisborne would be included in the series next season.

The series moves on to Huntly tomorrow night. Gisborne’s Ethan Cook (76G) is fourth, 20 points behind the leader and 10 points back from third.
