The call is out for anyone who wants to play social summer netball, starting next week at Gisborne Netball Centre's courts.

The league is run by the GNC youth activation group and will be a Fast5 format. Teams have five players on the court at a time and can score two- and three-point goals.

Youth activation group member Dipasha Narayan said she was more excited about playing social league than she was about regular Saturday netball.

“I've been counting down,” she said.

Games are on a Thursday evening, and the league is seen a great chance to have some fun with friends in an encouraging and friendly environment.

GNC youth activation manager Monique McLeod said the centre was pleased to support the group and help its members share their voice and vision for another year.

“It's netball where the only winners are those who play to have fun.

“Some like the competitive vibe and players can play hard if that's how they like to play, but we want this league to be more than that — a chance to feel included, connected and valued regardless of your playing experience.”

The youth activation group was formed last year and its beach netball series was a success. But doubt over whether the new sandtrack would be ready in time for this year's edition of the series prompted the group to run a youth Fast5 league instead.

Teams are encouraged to have eight players, with rolling subs. They do not need to be affiliated to a school. That means you can grab your whanau, grab your friends, and make a team. If you are unable to find a full team of players, you can sign up as an individual or a group.
