GISBORNE’S Laura Quilter couldn’t emulate her day one world record exploits but still enjoyed silver success at the German Cup pool championships on Saturday.
Auckland-based Wainui surf lifesaver Quilter set a New Zealand record in the 100 metres carry in a time of 53.98 seconds. New Zealand teammate Samantha Lee(Lyall Bay) was third in 56.10.
Lee then added another world record to the Black Fins’ collection with victory in the 100m rescue medley in 1 minute 8.86sec. Quilter, who set a world record in the 50m carry on day one, was second in 1.12.05.
Lee finished the champs held in Warendorf with silver in the women’s super lifesaver — an overall performance that saw her named top female competitor, with Quilter runner-up.
Teammate Steve Kent (Titahi Bay) won top male. He completed his standout two days with silver in the 100m rescue medley and bronze in the super lifesaver.
