The Gisborne road sidecar racing team of Bryce Rickard on the bars and swinger Callum Innes sit in second place overall after their most recent outing in the Auckland Motorcycle Club (AMCC) championship series at the Hampton Downs track in the Waikato.

In Round 2 on that track they recorded three third placings to go with their second placing and two thirds in the first round of the championship series last month.

The pair are placed second on 100 points in the overall Auckland championship, behind Mark Hill and Darren Prentice from Auckland on 150 points and ahead of Steven Taylor and Graham Wilkinson from Manawatu on 60 points.

The Gisborne team have significantly reduced their times each round.

Their good form comes after a challenging first season.

At Manfeild, Feilding, early this year organisers told them they were too slow to compete.

However, the entire sidecar class banded together to support them to compete in the new season, which started last month.

“It’s turned out we are fast enough,” Innes said.

“We have definitely proved that already. We’ve got faster every time we have raced.

“We would like to thank the sidecar teams who backed us at Manfeild. Without them we would not have been able to achieve what we are doing now.

“We are looking forward to Round 3 of the AMCC to see if we can achieve better results.”

The team have been supported by local sponsors Phill Law Panelbeating & Engineering, Motul, Gisborne Honda, Gisborne Resene and Signed Gisborne.

“Bryce and I are stoked to be racing together as best mates, and we look forward to what our future together holds,” Innes said.

The last round of the Auckland Motorcycle Club Championships will be on November 17 at Hampton Downs.

All races will be streamed live through CTAS Live.
