POVERTY Bay won a penalty shoot-out to secure third place on the final day of the Curtis Cup under-13 boys’ hockey tournament in Gisborne this week. Normal time ended with the score 1-1 in the third/fourth playoff between the Bay and Horowhenua. Harry Kirkpatrick scored Poverty Bay’s goal and Revill Gardner scored for Horowhenua.

In the shoot-out, George Allan and Jack Willock scored for Poverty Bay, while Codie Parata scored for Horowhenua.

Wellington won the tournament. They beat Rangitikei 2-1 in the final, thanks to goals from Matthew Crawford and Phillip Jack Evans. Makesi-Junior Semisi-Tulemau scored for Rangitikei.

Wairarapa beat Hawke’s Bay 3-1 in the fifth/sixth playoff. James Allingham, Jordan Miles and Max Falloon scored for Wairarapa, while Gray Smith scored for Hawke’s Bay.

In the seventh/eighth playoff, Manawatu beat Manawatu Development 3-0, thanks to goals from Thomas Duncan, Daniel Fletcher and Harry Wolland.

Taranaki finished ninth.
