Gisborne and Wairoa competitors performed well in shearing and woolhandling competitions over the long weekend.

At the Dannevirke A&P Show on Friday, Wairoa shearer Finn McKenzie was third in the junior final, shearing four sheep in six minutes 37 seconds.

In the woolhandling, Gisborne’s Joel Henare and Brittany Tibble were first and third respectively in the open final. Te Whetu Brown, of Wairoa, won the junior final.

At the Waitangi Day Aria Shearing Sports at Aria in the Waikato on Saturday, Ryka Swann, of Wairoa, was fourth in the junior final, shearing four sheep in 8m 2s.

In the woolhandling, Gisborne’s Joel Henare was second in the open final and Te Whetu Brown, of Wairoa, was third in the junior final.

At the Rangitikei Shearing Sports’ North Island Shearing and Woolhandling Championships at Marton on Sunday, Finn McKenzie, of Wairoa, was fifth in the junior final, shearing four sheep in 9m 25.95s.

In the woolhandling, Gisborne’s Brittany Tibble was third in the open final and Te Whetu Brown, of Wairoa, was fourth in the junior final.
