A team of seven representing Gisborne Trampoline Club returned from Auckland Icon Trampoline Champs with seven medals — three gold, three silver and one bronze.
Tyler Sheldrake, competing in a hard age group of 16 in the 10-and-under division, showed his huge improvement by taking the silver medal. This wasa tremendous effort and showed how focus on training can bring great results.
Tyler has five weeks to continue building in readiness for the nationals. His mother Leigh Sheldrake (née Webster), a silver medallist on double mini tramp (DMT) at the 1990 world champs in Germany, will be cheering him on.
Hayley Rolls, competing in youth international, took gold on DMT and silver on trampoline. Hayley is competing at the nationals in trampoline, synchro, DMT and tumbling, so she will be working hard to show a high standard across the board. She has the ability, and we are sure she will prove it.
Younger sister Sophie Rolls, competing in 8-and under, won two gold medals and has done this at every competition this year. She is too young to compete at national level but next year she will have the chance to qualify.
Daphne Morris, in her first big competition in 8-and-under, won 2 silver medals. She showed excellent form and will now work on adding the bigger skills.
Connor Brooks, competing in 10-and-under men, put on a great show to win bronze on double mini tramp, which gained him qualification for nationals, but unfortunately he will be unable to travel at the time of this competition.
Isileli Kamoto took silver in the 13/14-year men’s trampoline and qualified for nationals. This will mean he can also now synchronise with James van Aswegen.
Ngature Tuhura went to Auckland to try to qualify for national selection in DMT and was successful but still out of the medals. Ngature will compete in sub junior trampoline and 13/14yr age-level DMT. Consistency in his routines will be the focus now for Ngature, to enable him to capture those New Zealand titles of which he is well capable.
It’s been a busy competitive season for the club with just the main event to go —nationals here we come.
