They put pressure on their opponents, and that forced errors such as stepping, passes going out of court, turnovers, held ball and the wrong pass being chosen, she said.
Horouta had a good third quarter and made up the deficit.
“Lucretia Taitapanui at goal keep for Horouta played well and was out hunting the ball, securing many tips, intercepts and rebounds.” Beale said.
“In the fourth quarter, Waikohu defensive players Jasmine Ward, Lauryn Matenga and Aroha Brown-McLaren, worked together across the goal third, pressuring Horouta Gold to play the ball around to get it in to their shooters.
“This pressure created some turnovers and halfway through the quarter, Waikohu had taken the lead again by four goals and then it was virtually goal for goal.”
In the other match last night, Whangara Old Girls beat F45 High School Old Girls 48-45 in another see-saw game.
Whangara led early, 13-11 after 15 minutes, then HSOG were in front 25-23 at halftime. Whangara were up 35-34 at three-quartertime.
“This was another game that could have gone either way,” Beale said.
“Both teams used tight defence throughout the court and on attack had to work extra hard to free themselves from their opposition.
“Spectators were entertained by some very good netball skills, from both teams, to end our pool play.”
Beale said Whangara captain Tania Adamson led by example.
“Tania worked tirelessly for the full hour, collecting many intercepts and delivering some great ball in to her shooters.”
The premier-grade points have been tallied and the teams reseeded.
