NETBALL

THE top four teams of each of the other grades in Gisborne senior netball will play their “second-chance” semifinals tomorrow as they vie to join the teams who booked their place in the finals last weekend.

The losers from Game 1 in each grade last weekend face the winners from Game 2 in the Pak’nSave competition.

“After a two-goal loss to IMS High School Old Girls Masters, Claydens Waikohu Masters will face Tatapouri Sportsfit in the A Grade semifinal,” netball centre manager Allisa Hall said.

Tatapouri ended the season for Uawa Hinematioro, beating them 23-19.

“Waikohu won their Round 2 clash 38-26, and Tatapouri had a 31-27 victory in Round 3. With both teams having a win each this season, this will be a fantastic game, especially with a finals berth up for grabs.”

That decider starts at 10.30am on the Victoria Domain courts.

Whalis will meet YMP TimberPro in the A Reserve semifinal at 11.30am.

“The competition games between these teams have ended in a draw and a close win to Whalis, so this will be another exciting match-up,” Hall said.

“YMP were the 2018 A Reserve winners, so it will be interesting to see if they can make the final again,” Hall said.

The winners will meet YMP Masters on August 17.

Gisborne Denture Clinic HSOG face Thistle Storm in the First Grade semifinal.

“HSOG had a one-goal loss last weekend, while Thistle booked their spot after an extra-time thriller against Tatapouri Sportsfit Social,” Hall said.

“These teams have also had a win each in the competition rounds, so it will come down to who wants it most this weekend.”

The winners of this match at 9.30am will meet Gisborne Glass Ngatapa in the final.

Whatatutu booked themselves a place in the First Reserve final last Saturday, leaving Uawa Ngarangikahiwa and Steve Craill Builder Ngatapa to battle for the other spot tomorrow.

“Uawa have won both encounters between these teams this season, but finals netball can bring out some great contests,” Hall said.

The match starts at 11.30am.

The second grade semifinal will be between Uawa Iranui and YMP Manawanui.

“Uawa have won the matches between these teams this season, but YMP have had some good results over the last round, so it will be another great game.”

The teams play at 10.30am with the winners meeting Sportsfit Magnolias in the final next week.
