The Gisborne BMX Club’s summer season is well under way, with 42 riders attending the last club night.

STRIDERS

India Gill and Damien Smith moved from the strider track to the tail end of the big track and rode it well. Ivy Lasenby, Scott Pheasant, Maddie Smith, Pippa Spence and Frankie Wallingford all rode well and had some good battles on the strider track.

SIX AND SEVEN

Reave Nepia-Anderson, with five wins, was the pick of this group of 11 riders. Walker Wallis, with four wins, was second overall, with Brad O’Connell-Bacon in third place leading the chasing pack. Asher Nepia-Anderson picked up a win on her way to fourth place and had some close racing with Anna Spence and Toby Smith. William Johnston Priest, Oliver Tilghman, Ada Lasenby, Arthur Tilghman and Henry Wallingford rounded out the group.

Ruby-Anne Smith, fresh from a good AIMS Games result, won this group, from Tait Wilson and Ethan Gill, with Kaitlyn Priest in the mix riding up a group.

FOURTEEN AND FIFTEEN

Joshua Lardelli had a clean sweep of wins from Hayden Pragnell and Jacob Priest.

SIXTEEN-PLUS

Justin Nepia, with four wins, took the round win from Ethan Rogers, who managed to snatch a win off Nepia. Jason Lasenby took a good third, from Tim Smith, Phill Gill and Taylah Pragnell.

THIRTY-PLUS MASTERS

Matt Smith, with four wins, was the rider to beat, with Shane Pragnell and Rob Graham showing consistent riding for second and third. Dave Bacon and Stu Priest rounded out the group.

Kyla Newton was the lone female rider and would love some women to ride against.

The next club night is tonight, with sign-in from 5.30pm and racing from 6pm.

Dates to remember: November 7 is an open day. The club invites all those keen to try the sport to come along and give it a go. Riders are asked to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts, as well as gloves and a helmet. This is open to riders from the age of three (strider riders) and includes parents keen to get on a bike and join in.

On November 12, the club will hold a national championship qualification meet, with about 100 riders looking to take part.
