The annual Sawyer Rosebowl Optional Fours tournament was held at Kahutia Bowling Club on Sunday.

Ten teams played three rounds of games lasting eight ends or an hour, whichever came first.

The winners of the Stonehaven Memorials-sponsored event were Marcus Merrick (skip), Geoff Pinn (director), Andrew Ball (two) and 12-year-old Liam Pinn (lead).

They had two wins and a draw, winning 14 ends along the way.

At the prizegiving, Merrick — who came all the way from Kawerau — thanked the sponsors and acknowledged his team for playing well. He said it was good to see Liam Pinn, now in his fifth playing year, still enjoying his bowls and continuing to play well.

They finished third with two wins and 14 ends won.

The club thanked sponsors Graeme and Chris Gedye, of Stonehaven Memorials, for their continued support.

On Saturday, Kahutia Bowling Club members celebrated their opening day for the 2023-24 season.

Thirty players turned up for three games of triples.
