ROB Hayes and John Wilson have retained the Barry Memorial Croquet Club’s golf croquet doubles championship for 2023.

Seven pairs played a round-robin format, and players were exhausted after six games, many of which lasted over an hour.

It became clear that the Hayes-Wilson and Charles Ostler-Ross Thomson combinations were the pairs to beat. They had both won five games when they met in the last round.

Hayes and Wilson played excellent, accurate croquet to win 7-3. Ostler and Thomson were runners-up and Per Elzen and Christine McCullough were third, with four wins.

Barb Humphreys from the Barry club  competed in the Rotorua annual golf croquet singles tournament.

Humphreys played good, consistent croquet to be a clear winner in Division 3.

She was the only player with four wins. The game she lost, with a scoreline of 7-6, could have gone either way.
