GISBORNE Rowing Club held its annual rowathon fundraiser on Saturday from 7am to 7pm and made $795. Rowers covered more than 500 kilometres despite never getting in the water. “We had great public support,” said club committee member Fiona Mitford. Despite the warm temperature, rowers on six ergs — two at the Farmers’ Market and four on the corner of Peel Street and Gladstone Gladstone Road — clocked up 528.85km, 100km more than last year.” Money raised will help fund trips to regattas, culminating in the Maadi Cup national secondary schools’ champs in Twizel.
