TE Hapara School will represent Poverty Bay-East Coast at the Air New Zealand Rippa Rugby Championship in Wellington in August.
Te Hapara defeated Manutuke 25-15 in the final of the combined PB-EC primary interschool tournament on the Gisborne Boys’ High School rectory fields yesterday.
Over 200 players in 18 school
teams competed in four pools — the top two from each progressing to the playoffs.
Two players of the tournament were named — Ishtar Mackey-Huriwai (Manutuke) was top girl and Kaiao Tangira (Te Hapara) top boy.
Poverty Bay rugby development officer Henry Lamont said it was a great day. The young talent on show was impressive and the sideline support “amazing”.
