LOCAL equestrians have been busy over the past month competing at home and and outside the district.

Anna Harris and Mr Crème Brulee had a successful time in the riding horse classes at the Hawke’s Bay Showing Championships

They won the open paced and mannered class, were second in the best presented, novice (0-5 wins), novice paced and mannered, and ladies riding horse classes, and third in the open riding horse (158 to 164cm) and senior rider.

They were also novice riding horse reserve champion.

Sinead Dolman has made the most of three weekends on the road with her fantastic little horse Kiwi Lansing.

She was second in the junior rider and equitation at the Wellington Horowhenua Showjumping Champs in Foxton.

Dolman went one better at the Feilding A&P Show to win the junior rider, then backed it up with another win at the Young Horse Show in Hawke’s Bay in the junior rider and equitation classes.

Her consistency is paying off as she leads the national junior rider series.

A large contingent of Gisborne riders attended the Young Horse Show at the Hawkes Bay A&P Showgrounds.

Lidy Loffler and Graceful enjoyed their competition in the show hunter ring — winning the seven-year-old championship, placing third in the 1.10m, fourth in the 1m and fifth in the amateur rider.

On Parafino, Loffler was third in the five-year-old championship, third in the 90cm and fifhth in the 10m.

Holly Baines and Pre Mo were fourth in the show hunter derby and fifth in the 1.20m class of the showjumping.

Caroline Richardson and Kiwi Corona won the six-year-old show hunter championship.

Fraser Tombleson and Mea had a win in the 1.3m showjumping and Mea also won best performed mare in the same class.

On Kiwi Coronation, Fraser was second in the 1.20m showjumping.

Luke Dee had a ride on equestrian great Merran Hain’s famous hourse Untouchable and had wins in the show hunter derby, 1.10m show hunter and 1.15m show hunter.

Phoebe Williams and Mr Ernesto have been joined by Jessica McCann and Last Spring at the top of the Bernina Sewing Centre showjumping leaderboard for ponies.

Williams and McCann are on 22 points apiece, Jaime de Costa and Silver Star are third on 21 and Milly Dever and My Geronimo are next on 15.

In the horses, Caroline Richardson and Kiwi Corona still lead on 45 points from Fraser Tombleson and Mea on 27, Shelagh Nolan and Ngahiwi Eyeza Blue 26, and Holly Baynes and Pre Mo /

Several other combos are on 21.

In the EJ Gordon Livestock show hunter pony series. Isobel Bevitt and Wheres Wally remain on in the lead with 35 pointsf from Lily Beaufoy and Glenbrook Barney on 22, and Sophie Petro and Wainui Soda Pops on 13,.

Jessica McCann and two of her ponies — Kaycee Montego Bay Style and Last Spring— are on 12.

In the horses, Merran Hain and Caroline Coop with Untouchable still have a good lead on 34 points Holly Baynes and Pre Mo are on 23 and Lisa Walker and Mistaken Identity 19 are third and Lidy Loffler with Graceful close behind on 15 points.

The LP Low Hunter series are a close contest with Shelly Watts and Craighaven Frenchmade in the lead on 18, Caroline Coop with Pro Fumo on 16, Tanya Hawthorne and Dun Believable 15, Lydia Edginton and Vanilla Skyes on 11 points and not too far behind Sage Harding and Sock It are on 8 points.

The Gisborne Area of Equestrian Sports New Zealand held a show hunter and jumping day on in early December and there was a great turn-out, especially from the lower level of up and coming young riders.

There is a short break for the Christmas-New Year period before competition resumes in early January with the Waerenga o kuri sports on January 13, followed by the Wairoa A&P Show on January 19 and 20, Wairoa jumping show on January 21 and the Larsen Sawmilling jumping championships from January 26 to 28.

Several Gisborne riders competed at the Taupo Christmas Classic last weekend.

Holly Baines and Pre Mo had an exciting win in the amateur rider national series class.

Tess Clark and Sinatra were sixth in the world cup qualifier and sixth in the 1.40m showjumping.

Two Eye See, owned my Mick Gardner and ridden by Robert Steel, won the six-year-old series class.
