GO-KARTING

AGE is literally just a race number for 75-year-old Go Kart racer Rex Williamson who took up the sport just over a year ago and now wants to encourage others to have a go at it.

He is a member of the Eastland Kart Club.

The number on Rex’s Kart is 74 from how old he was when he started and he knows he needs to change it to match his age.

The go-kart motor mechanic also has a passion for motor bikes and is a member of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club.

“I should have taken up go-kart racing years ago and I encourage anyone who is thinking about it to have a go,” Rex said.

His two grandsons race.

Conor White, 17, and Toby White, 14, both race in the Junior KT100 class.

“Conor works for CR Taylor after school and Toby works mowing lawns for TLC lawnmowing in the school holidays.

“Their dad Mike is always there at the track, pit-crewing and lending a hand where he can,” Rex said.

“The boys have saved all their money to buy their own go-karts and do all their own maintenance.

“I enjoy spending time with them and teaching them.”

The kart club’s next meeting will be the last for the season on April 14. It will be a final points meeting.
