Hawke’s Bay and Wellington masters will get a valuable taste of what lies ahead of them in November when they compete in a quadrangular in Gisborne this weekend.

Prospective Poverty Bay-East Coast Freyberg Masters and national interprovincial players will be joined by the visiting provinces for three rounds of matchplay on the Poverty Bay course.

Eight-man teams will be in action with the Masters (over-40s) players vying for places in their respective squads for the Freyberg Masters being held at Poverty Bay in the first week of November.

For the visitors, it will be a great chance to familiarise themselves with a course which is probably playing its longest off the championship tees following the recent rain.

For the home teams, who no longer have interprovincial fixtures during the year, it is the opportunity to get in some hardcore matchplay experience against quality opposition.

Two rounds will be played on Saturday — starting at 7.30am — and one on Sunday morning.

The teams for the fixture are —

Poverty Bay-East Coast masters: Jace Brown, Peter Stewart, Mark Jefferson, Glenn Morley, David Solomann, Tony Akroyd, Dwayne Russell, Anaru Reedy.
