The red leotards of Gisborne Trampoline Club were again to the fore in all areas at the Tri Star Competition in Auckland this month.

From a team of six athletes, each team member won at least one medal. They returned with a total of six gold medals, two silver and one bronze.

Alfie Connon was first up, winning gold in the eight-years-and-under boys’ division with a strong performance and demonstrating major improvement.

He was followed by Lucy Spence, who in the same age group performed consistently to capture gold on trampoline and DMT (double mini tramp). By next year she will be ready to compete at National level.

In the nine-to-10-year age group, Mia MacArthur won gold on trampoline and DMT, which was an excellent performance for her first competition in Auckland.

Another competing in the “big smoke” for the first time was Ava-Raey Haley. In the eight-and-under division she did well to take silver in both disciplines behind clubmate Lucy Spence.

Sophie Hawkes, in the 11/12yr girls’ division has been working her form and took the bronze medal on DMT, which gained her National qualification. If she keeps up the improvement she should qualify in trampoline at the Central Champs in Gisborne.

Mia Goldsmith, competing in the girls’ 13/14yr division, took the bronze medal, qualifying for the Nationals on trampoline and on DMT. She displays excellent height and form in these disciplines.

Now the work centres on the club getting ready for the Central Champs at the clubrooms from Friday to Sunday.

Members of the public are welcome to come along and see some outstanding gymnasts from all over the North Island performing in a range of disciplines.
