The Ralph Morse Shield for Gisborne surf lifesaving club supremacy goes on the line from tomorrow night.

Competition should be tight across the carnival which is being held at Midway Beach.

Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae retained the trophy last year after a titanic battle with Dawson Building Midway.

Riversun Wainui contributed strongly, producing one of their best local championships results.

The 2021 championships start at 4pm tomorrow with rescue events in board and tube, and double ski and canoe races.

The carnival continues on Saturday from 8.30am, with all the other events throughout the day.

Over 130 competitors are expected, including some from outside the district.
