Wet weather forced the postponement of Gisborne Speedway Club’s first-night programme of its double-header grand finale weekend.

Club president Clyde McGrory said the track looked excellent on Thursday, but heavy showers since then impacted the track surface.

“We tried as hard as we could yesterday to get the track back up to racing standard, but it was too wet,” he said.

“We’ll be working hard to try to get it race-ready for today, and if the rain stays away we will have a good chance of doing that.

“At this stage we are hoping to have it ready to start racing at 5pm this afternoon, with gates open from 4pm.

“It we cannot do it today we will aim to race tomorrow evening from 5pm.

“We ask fans to check the speedway club’s facebook page about racing tonight or tomorrow.”
