GISBORNE surf lifesavers Laura Quilter and Chris Dawson featured in world record performances on the first day of the German Cup pool competition in Warendorf, Germany.
Quilter, of the Wainui club, set a world record in winning the gold medal in the 50-metre carry.
She also won bronze in the200m obstacle swim.
Dawson, of the Midway club, was in the men’s team who set a world record in winning the 4x50m obstacle relay.
The same team — Dawson, Andrew Trembath, Andy McMillan and Steve Kent — were fifth in the 4x25m manikin carry but were two seconds under a New Zealand record that had stood since 2008.
In other notable New Zealand performances, Samantha Lee of Lyall Bay and Steve Kent of Titahi Bay won gold, and Andy McMillan of St Clair won bronze in the 200m obstacle swim.
In the 50m carry, McMillan won silver and Lee won bronze.
The second day of competition starts at 8.30pm tonight (NZ time).
