“At training tomorrow, we’ll work hard on our fielding. We’ve got Napier Boys’ High School on Monday.”
Primary team co-captain Angus Baker won the toss and he made an excellent 36 from No.3.
No.2 Kelan Bryant (22), second drop Te-Reimana Gray (14 retired) and No.1 Campbell Steele (14) were also in good form with the bat.
Seamers Nathan Trowell (1-14 off three overs) and Ben Phelps (1-17 off two) were the pick of the Boys’ High bowlers.
Phelps (39 retired at No.2) and Trowell (21 from No.6) then backed up in the Colts’ tension-fraught innings.
Stewart made 18 from No.3 with Gareth Langford (1-7 off two overs), Primary boys co-captain Sebastian Wilson (1-20 off two) and Henry Watson (1-22 off two) being the wicket-takers.
“I was impressed with Luke Fisher in the field for Boys’ High,” Primary coach Nan Baker said.
“We batted well, and Gus (Baker) kept well. Some of the rules about bowling everyone made the job a little bit hard.”
Primary co-captain Sebastian Wilson was impressed by the form of his opening bowlers Bekko Page and Lukas Fry.
“We had to roll the dice as regards bowlers at the end of the game but Angus Henry and Henry Watson did the best they could against some hard-hitting batsmen.”
There’s no getting away from it.
Blake Marshall once again stole the show in Campion’s seven-wicket win against Girls’ High. Batting at No.4, he hammered 28 (retired) off nine balls — including six consecutive boundaries — as Campion chased down Gisborne Girls’ High School’s total of 85.
Girls’ High captain Kayley Knight won the toss and elected to bat, her team then making 85-6 with No.8 Rubi Perano (19 not out) and Knight (14 retired from No.4) in good touch.
Leg-spinner Liam Barbier (2-6 off three overs) bowled tidily for Campion, whose No.2 batsman Luke Hurlstone (20) played a fine hand in their innings.
“We can bowl and field better than we did — we gave away far too many extras (38),” Campion captain Max Briant said.
“But we batted well. Luke’s 20 was made off only seven balls.”
