POVERTY Bay returned from the Northern Districts three-game 50-over cricket tournament at Taupo without a win. They lost to Waikato Valley yesterday.
The Bay won the toss and posted 196-7 with Sam Tallott (48), Scott Tallott (43), Dane Thompson (29 not out) and Rob Tallott (25 not out) featuring withthe bat.
“The innings had stuttered along until Dane, 29 of 12 balls, joined Robbie in the 47th over,” Bay coach David McDonald said.
“They hit 39 off the last three overs to get us to a defendable target.
“We started well, claiming two wickets to have Waikato 15-2 but then Anish Desai (109no) batted well for his second rep 100 this season.
“He was aided by some less-than-accurate bowling in the middle to late overs.
“Overall, they were three constructive days for us. It’s not lack of ability. We just failed to make the most of good positions we work hard to get into and undo all that by lack of execution and patience.”
