lifeguards from the Waikanae and Midway clubs came home with medals from the SLSNZ Eastern Region pool rescue championships in Rotorua.

Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae team members Jack Keepa, Nathan Proctor, Lachie Falloon, Edan Wilson and Freya Wilson put in solid performances and were rewarded with good results.

“Surf Life Saving New Zealand and their team did a fantastic job of sorting out the logistics to still be able to run this event under Covid restrictions and the athletes were so grateful to be able to compete,” a Waikanae spokeswoman said.

Keepa won gold medals in the under-19 100m manikin carry and manikin tow.

Falloon won bronze in the u19 100m manikin carry and 50m manikin carry.

Edan Wilson won silver in the u19 women's 100m and 50m manikin carry and 100m manikin tow, and bronze in the 100m rescue medley.

Edan's sister Freya Wilson won bronze in the under-17 100m manikin tow and 50m with fins event.

Proctor won bronze in the u19 100m manikin tow and 200m super lifesaver event.

The team of Keepa, Proctor and the Wilsons won the under-19 obstacle relay, and the team of Fallon, Keepa and the Wilsons took gold in the Rescue Medley Relay Open mixed.

Dawson Building Midway's Ella Sutton got a silver in the u14 female 100m obstacle race.

Angus Blair also went well in the u17 age group, as did Tyron Evans and Sophie Petro, who raced well in the u17 girls' division.
