BRISBANE-based Gisborne swimmer Michael Pickett has been chosen to represent New Zealand at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
He is one of four swimmers the New Zealand Olympic Committee today named to represent New Zealand at the Games.
Pickett, 15, will be 16 when he competes at theGames, to be held from October 6 to 18. He will contest the men’s 50-metre and 100m freestyle.
This year he moved to Brisbane to train at one of Australia’s most prestigious swimming clubs, St Peters Western. He attends St Peters Lutheran College.
In Gisborne, he competed with the Enterprise Cars Swim Team.
The others named are Gina Galloway, 17, of Diocesan School for Girls, Auckland; Erika Fairweather, 14, of Kavanagh College, Dunedin; and Zac Reid, 18, a Massey University student from Taranaki.
