Poverty Bay-East Coast put up a gritty fight without reward in their final clash at the national interprovincial golf tournament in Auckland on Friday.
PBEC lost 5-0 to Southland on the Whitford Park course but all five of the matches were close.
PBEC No.1 Hukanui Brown lost on the 18th
to Matt Tautari, who last year brought up his 100th national interprovincial match. No.2 William Brown, No.3 Reef Pohatu and No.4 David Solomann all went down 3 and 2. No.5 Dwayne Russell lost 1-down.
It was the fourth whitewash in six ties for PBEC. They finished bottom of their section and 15th and last overall, with Whitford Park and Waikohu member Solomann the only team member to register individual success.
Canterbury beat North Harbour 3-2 in the final.
