POVERTY Bay-East Coast were on the wrong end of a tight clash at the Freyberg Masters men’s golf interprovincial this morning.

PBEC were beaten 3-2 by Canterbury in Round 6 of the over-40s matchplay tournament being held on the Paraparaumu Beach course near Wellington.

No.2 Simon Jeune picked up his first win of the week after several close defeats. He beat Andrew Dufton 2 and 1.

No.4 Tony Akroyd had his second victory — 4 and 3 over Aaron Forsyth.

No.1 Anaru Reedy lost 4 and 3 to Jonathan Stieller, No.3 Dwayne Russell was defeated 6 and 4 by Brett Turner and No.5 Jace Brown lost 2 and 1 to Jason Sincock.

PBEC are sitting 12th out of 13 provinces on the leaderboard.

They faced Tasman in the afternoon round.
