Patutahi lead pennants

PATUTAHI set the pace in the opening round of the Poverty Bay women's pennants.

Held in conjunction with the Patutahi women's open tournament, the host club emerged top of the six competing clubs by the narrowest of margins.

Patutahi's team of Denise Johnston, Shelley Robertson, Lorraine Haisman and daughter Andrea Haisman finished with a combined net of 296.

They were just one stroke ahead of Mahia, with defending champions Wairoa another shot back.

Te Puia Hot Springs were next on 309, followed by Poverty Bay on 310 and Electrinet Park 316.

Meanwhile, the top prizes were shared around the traps at the Patutahi women's open.

Park's Karen Hay won the senior gross with 80; Patutahi's Johnston the net with 72 and Wairoa's June Underhill the stableford with 36.

In the junior division, Te Puia Springs' Hiria McClutchie won the gross with 96, Waikohu's Marg Tuapawa the net with 71 and Mahia's Viv Kyle the stableford with 37.
