PATU Tahi boxing gym is holding their box-a-thon this weekend to fundraise for their fighters travelling to compete in the Golden Gloves next month.
Seven boxers from the gym will be travelling to compete and have been given “pledge sheets,” numbered from one to 30. Each number represents adollar value for sponsoring the fighter and has a corresponding exercise that the fighters will complete together on Saturday morning.
Three of the Patu Tahi boxers competing at this year’s Golden Gloves will be making their boxing debut, with two being the youngest to compete for the club at just 11 years old.
The public are invited to come from 9am on Saturday, and are asked to give a koha if they want to join in with the exercises. Those who pledged are also invited to come along and get involved in the day’s activities.
As part of the fundraising effort, the club is also offering one-on-one training with head coach Kim-Maree Larby, which includes a free one-on-one session for a child with one of the other boxing coaches.
The half-hour session costs $30 and can be booked through the club’s Facebook page.
