Seventeen-year-old Rachael Rickard has been awarded her silver star for winning five Poverty Bay-East Coast Centre indoor bowls titles.

She was in top form, partnering Lois Lamont to win the centre women’s pairs event to earn her silver star.

On the road to the title, Rickard and Lamont beat Karyn Foster and Zoe Trowell 8-5, then Pauline Stone and Nanette Treloar 8-5.

In the final game, they came up against Kaye Easton and Kayla Trowell. Whoever won that game would be champions.

After eight of the nine scheduled ends, Easton and Trowell led 8-5, but on the very last end, Rickard played a terrific bowl to push the kitty back for four shots and the win, 9-8.

Lamont led well to pick up an amazing 67th centre title.

Arnold Hutchins continued his impressive run of form, winning the centre men’s pairs with Bryan Pulley 10-7 against Matthew Foster and David Lynn.

After four ends of the nine-end final, Hutchins led 8-2, with Pulley playing great lead bowls to help.

After end 8, Hutchins was 10-6 up. Foster and Lynn needed four shots on the last end just to draw the game. They managed only one.

In the semifinals, Hutchins and Pulley were too good for Warren Gibb and Warren Edlin, winning 14-6, while Foster and Lynn defeated Andrew Rickard and Kevin Lee 8-6.

Hutchins has now raked up 79 centre titles, while Pulley sits on 67 titles.
