Poverty Bay-East Coast were too good for Hawke’s Bay in their Presidents Trophy annual clash, held this year in Gisborne. The score was 86-74 in the hosts’ favour.

In the first round of fours, Poverty Bay won three out of four games to go 12-4 ahead.

In Round 2, for pairs, Poverty Bay won four games and had two draws to go 27-13 ahead.

In Round 3, singles, the teams had eight wins each, which took the score to 43-29.

The fourth round was fours, and Poverty Bay won three out of the four games to go 55-33 ahead.

On Day 2, Hawke’s Bay made a comeback. In Round 5, for pairs, Hawke’s Bay had five wins to Poverty Bay’s three.

This reduced the gap, but Poverty Bay still led 64-48.

In Round 6, singles, the honours were shared — eight wins each — to make the score 80-64.

The last round of the competition was fours. Hawke’s Bay had to win all four games to draw the event, but could muster only two wins and a draw. This meant Povery Bay won the event 86-74.

Journey Hihi was undefeated throughout the weekend, recording six wins and a draw from her seven games.

Teammate David Lynn had six wins, Doc Tipene had five wins and a draw, and Arnold Hutchins had five wins.

John Harvey, Warren Gibb, Lyn Kay-Allen and Lois Lamont had four wins, and Andrew Rickard, Pauline Stone and Nanette Treloar had three wins and a draw.

Dylan Anderson had three wins, Bryan Pulley, Nathan Trowell and Hina Preddey had two wins and a draw, and Coralie Campbell-Whitehead had two wins.
