On the lookout for local legends

A CALL is going out to find and celebrate netball’s local legends.

They are the game’s supporters whose time and energy keep local netball alive through good and bad times.

The ANZ Bank, sponsor of ANZ Premiership netball, is putting out a nationwide call to recognise and reward these workers for the game.

“Netball’s local legends could be anyone from diehard supporters who turn up week in, week out, to parents who taxi their kids to games every weekend, to coaches who constantly work behind the scenes,” a statement from the sponsor said.

The Local Legend project would ease the volunteers’ efforts on behalf of netball through funding of up to $15,000. The legends themselves would receive a $1000 cash prize as a thank-you for everything they did in the community.

For the 10th year running, ANZ is also offering netball grants to schools and netball clubs in Gisborne to help them take their game to the next level.

Over the past decade, ANZ Netball Grants have totalled more than $1.2 million.
