CAMPION College old boy Michael Rowland defied the Bollywood Stars attack to score an unbeaten 100 off 123 balls in a third-round DJ Barry Cup 40-over cricket game at Harry Barker Reserve on Saturday.

Rowland, back on holiday, hit eight fours in a magnificent knock that denied the Stars the maximum 25 points and earned Campion 12 bonus points.

The Stars looked certain to join Pirates at the top of the table when they batted first and posted 289-9 declared.

They lost their first wicket with only 10 runs on the board, but then came partnerships of 89 from Ajay Kumar (42) and Keegan Martin (77), 60 from Martin and Harry Singh (33), 56 from Singh and Gary Singh (56), and 55 from Gary Singh and Gagan Dhingra (28).

Lucy McHugh was the chief wicket-taker with four for 69, while Sam Patterson picked up two wickets.

Matt’s father Mark and Rowland revived the innings with a superb 95-run stand before Naden was trapped leg before wicket by Keegan Martin. Naden’s 51 runs had come off 60 balls and included seven fours.

Rowland and medium-pace bowler Sam Patterson advanced the score to 156 before the hard-hitting Patterson was caught by Gary Singh off Harry Singh for 27.
