Gisborne Bowling Club's senior men's team will represent the district at the men's national interclub sevens finals in Wellington in April.

They won the two-day Bowls Gisborne-East Coast men's interclub tournament.

Five teams entered — two from Kahutia and one each from Gisborne, Te Karaka and Poverty Bay.

The Gisborne team — Shaun Goldsbury (singles); Charlie Ure (skip) and Geoff Pinn (pairs); and Malcolm Trowell (s), Steve Goldsbury, Arthur Hawes and Andrew Ball (fours); with Tim Sherriff as manager — won 10 games out of 12 for 20 points with a plus-96 differential.

Second were Te Karaka with 14 points and a differential of plus-42; third were Kahutia (1) with 14 points and a plus-24 differential; fourth were Poverty Bay with eight points and a minus-70 differential; and fifth were Kahutia (2) with four points and a minus-90 differential.

Round 1 — Singles: Te Karaka defeated Kahutia (1) 25-16; Kahutia (2) def Poverty Bay 25-16.

Pairs: Gisborne def Te Karaka 21-14; Poverty Bay def Kahutia (2) 27-7.

Fours: Gisborne def Kahutia (1) 14-11; Poverty Bay def Kahutia (2) 22-11.

Round 2 — Singles: Gisborne def Poverty Bay 25-13; Te Karaka def Kahutia (2) 25-14.

Pairs: Kahutia (1) def Kahutia (2) 18-14; Te Karaka def Poverty Bay 22-10.

Fours: Te Karaka def Gisborne 11-10; Kahutia (1) def Kahutia (2) 16-11.

Round 3 — Singles: Gisborne def Te Karaka 24-21; Kahutia (1) def Kahutia (2) 25-14.

Pairs: Gisborne def Kahutia (1) 20-10; Kahutia (2) def Te Karaka 18-15.

Fours: Kahutia (1) def Poverty Bay 22-8; Te Karaka def Kahutia (2) 14-13.

Round 4 — Singles: Gisborne def Kahutia (2) 25-13; Kahutia (1) def Poverty Bay 25-5.

Pairs: Gisborne def Kahutia (2) 22-11; Kahutia (1) def Poverty Bay 20-15.

Round 5 — Singles: Gisborne def Kahutia (1) 25-17; Te Karaka def Poverty Bay 25-9.

Fours: Gisborne def Kahutia (2) 21-5; Poverty Bay def Te Karaka 14-10.
