Former Czech Republic international Martin Worndl added his name to the winners’ list of Poverty Bay Cricket’s most prestigious individual honour on Saturday night.
The OBR opening batsman was named Player of the Year and received the Heikell Cup at Poverty Bay Cricket’s prizegiving for the 2025-2026 season.
His effortsfor OBR included a match-winning unbeaten 100 against Gisborne Boys’ High First XI in a Doleman Cup 40-overs match.
Worndl also won the PBCA Trophy for the highest batting average in the Premier Grade - 47.7 runs.
Northern Districts age group representative and ND Academy member Johnathon Gray won the Naden Family Cup for Representative Player of the Year.
The Stewart Cup for best allrounder went to Moshim Spices Horouta’s Gautam Sareen, while teammate James Birrell won the WB Miller Cup for fielding.
Gisborne Boys’ High First XI had a memorable season, winning the DJ Barry Cup (over Bollywood HSOB) and Doleman Cup (Horouta) finals. GBHS spin bowler Jordyn Halley collected two premier trophies - the Hayes Family Cup for leading wicket-taker and the Chrisp Cup for best bowling average.
Poverty Bay’s Women’s Player of the Year went to Mackenzie Potts-Tyro.
Bollywood HSOB Presidents dominated the Reserve Grade awards, winning both team trophies, including the Hope Cup. Captain Glen Udall won the batting aggregate trophy and received the Ross Scragg Memorial for service to cricket.
Poverty Bay Cricket's player of the 2025-2026 season was OBR's Martin Worndl. He also won the Premier Grade best batting average trophy.

It was a memorable season for the HSOB Presidents team led by Glen Udall (pictured). They dominated the Reserve Grade section of the Poverty Bay Cricket prizegiving, with Udall winning HH Barker Cup for batting aggregate and the Ross Scragg Memorial for service to cricket.
