Nick Hendrie hit six sixes and nine fours in a match-winning not out knock of 95 off 42 balls in the Walker Shield T15 Blast last night,

The Hendrie-led Smash Palace Bail-breakers won the round 3 clash against Auto Tyre Eagles by 92 runs.

Having won the toss, the Bail-breakers made 156-4 on Harry Barker Reserve’s No.2 ground.

While left-hander Hendrie produced a one-man demolition show, opening partner Vaughan Thompson (20 runs from 24 balls) batted well.

Travis Mitchell (one wicket for 19 runs off 3 overs), Nick Butler (1-13 off 2) and Adam Whibley (1-19 off 2) were the Eagles’ best bowlers .

However, three times Hendrie hit a no-ball (over waist-high in the striker’s normal stance) for four . . . and the subsequent “free-hit” for six.

In reply, the Eagles were bowled out for 64 in 11.5 overs,

Jacob Colbert (2-5 off 2) bowling the perfect length and Isaac Hughes (1-5 in five balls) claimed the last wicket.

Baxter Mackay top-scored for the Eagles with 21 off 29 batting at 3.

Seven other players were dismissed for scores of six or fewer.

In contrast to the Bail-breakers’ clinic, the Bollywood Stars produced a second-to-last-ball escape to beat the Eastland Broncos.

Their clash on ground 4 was action-packed from the moment Broncos skipper Craig Christophers won the toss.

First-drop Jack Faulkner (29 off 34 balls) and No.4 Graham Hudson (42 from 36) steered the Broncos to 110-2.

Stars seamer Paul Stewart took 2-26 off 3 bowling first-change and opening bowler Dane Thompson conceded only 12 runs in his three overs. Fifteen-year-old Blake Marshall took 2-19 off 2 and both his scalps were of massive importance — Scott Tallott (27 off 19 including five fours) and fellow opener Francesca Calucci (30 from 17 including five fours and a six).

Thompson made 20 off 22 balls and Brad Reynolds (9 off 6) was at the other end when Ajay Kumar (11 from 17) hit the winning runs off the second-to-last ball.

The stroke was a lofted drive over Christophers’ head at extra cover off Faulkner, who ended with 1-7 in 1.5.overs. Hudson took 1-8 off 3.

“We were happy with what we posted, with Jack and Graham putting on 88 for the fourth wicket,” said Christophers.

“We fielded really well but Scotty and Franco (Calucci) were the difference for them. They put up 52 runs in the first five overs.”
