Tene Goldsmith likes this time of the year.
The soon-to-be-octogenarian has a tradition of hitting peak form over this period, which has culminated in him equalling or breaking his age multiple times.
Last year, a day after his 78th, birthday, he shot 75 and followed it up with two 78s and a 76 before the end of 2025.
On January 2, “Goldie” carded 78. On Saturday he won the Division 1 men’s Stableford with 79-9-70, for 38 points. And on Tuesday he topped a field of 27 in the veteran men’s Stableford with 77-9-68, for 40.
He turns 79 on February 21.
An extra day has been added to qualifying for the Sean Shivnan Pharmacy men’s shootout. As well as Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, players will be able to qualify each Friday.
Murray Smith is used to signing for three-figure scores, but he’s hoping to get used to two-digit ones after last week.
