EASTLAND Kart Club organisers came up with a novel way of finding a winner from a three-way tie on Sunday: a piggyback race.

It was the Gisborne Curtains best-pairs meeting, with 41 pairs taking part.

Drivers were paired across different classes, so speed differences among the karts meant a conventional run-off would not have been fair.

The solution: a piggyback race down the straight. It turned out to be a good-humoured and entertaining way to end an enjoyable day.

It was soon apparent that Rob Gomm is no six-million-dollar man when it comes to running with Tyler Michie on his back.

Ashley McMillan and Sarah Henstock won the piggyback run-off. Dylan MacGregor and Tess Kemp were second, with Gomm and Michie third.

The new track surface held up well to some fast racing.

In the pro class, Nick Rogers had his first win of the season.

MacGregor, in his rotax, was all class, while Bruce McMahon and Gary Shanks had good wins in the KT100 classes.

The distinction of “worst pair” went to father and son Tony and Konnor Gibson.

The next meeting will be held on Sunday at the club track off Aerodrome Road.
