The first meeting of the Eastland Kart Club’s 11th season was held on Sunday, featuring a different format for the year.

Just the rookies and juniors run under the 3 heat format front, middle and back.

However, the added feature for the more competitive racers will be taken on their lap times.

Depending on the number of racers on the day, each racer will submit their fastest lap time which will fill the three groups until they have an even number among them.

As the day progresses, drivers can be promoted or relegated through the groups, depending on their times. This makes for more even and competitive racing.

The feature at the end of the meeting saw 12 karts battle it out over 10 laps with Luca winning this with his father, Mike Vita claiming second again. Harley Davis picked up third, fourth was claimed by Seth Hall, Daniel Taylor was fifth and in sixth place was Barry Irvine.

In the junior class Pyper Irvine had two wins and a second place while new driver Indigo McGuinness took her first win with two second placings and Nixen Gooch claimed third three times.

Driver of the Day went to Hall with three wins in Group A while Luca raced to two second places and a third and Mike took a second and two third places.

In Group B, Dion Lund raced to two wins and Alex Rosie secured one win. Second was shared among Ben Adcock, Davis and Barry Irvine, each with a win and third had three drivers, Adcock, Irvine and Shaun Barwick,  each winning one race apiece.

Group C saw wins to Barry, Tessa Irvine and Barwick. Second-place-getters were Caleb Stichbury with two and Logan Irvine with one. Thirds were taken by Conrad Gooch with two and Mark Vizi Toroa with one.

This weekend’s Sunday ‘club fun day’ will be held at a later time of 12pm for the Rugby World Cup final. The Club invites all who want to spectate or find out more to head down to the track in the new subdivision located off Aerodrome Road, Matawhero.
