National development squads trained in Gisborne late last month in preparation for the world waka ama sprint champs being held in Tahiti in July.
The men’s and women’s national development squads feature the best up-and-coming paddlers in the country, who will represent New Zealand at the 2018 IVFVa’a World Sprint Championships in Tahiti from July 16 to 26.
Gisborne has a strong contingent in both squads.
And local paddlers Sieda Tureia and Penny Scragg are coach and manager respectively of the women’s development squad.
