Lytton teacher Pratik Jethwa, with 3-26 off six overs, was the pick of the Horouta bowling attack.
His wickets included that of Mark Naden, caught behind by Greg Taylor.
“We knew we would have to bat well to continue our run of appearances in Hope Cup finals,” said Taylor, who led from the front as he and Edwin Sandys put on 86 runs.
Sandys was caught behind by Mark Naden off Mark Jones.
Craig Hoole was next to depart, trapped leg before wicket by Tahran Ward for 16 with the score at 118.
Taylor then fell five runs short of his half-century — caught Kavali, bowled Ward.
Vaughan Thompson (27 runs) continued the momentum, and Jason Brooks and Billy Morse took the score to 222-5 after 34 overs.
When Morse was bowled by Luke Hurlstone for five, Horouta needed 16 runs with five wickets in hand and 36 balls to go. But they lost their last five wickets for eight runs, leaving Brooks on 43 not out.
Campion denied Brooks the strike, then Hurlstone became a hero, as the last five Horouta batsmen registered ducks and Hurlstone finished with 4-37.
He had support from Matt Hudson (3-52) and Ward (2-41).
Gisborne Boys’ High School (1) cruised into the Hope Cup final with a 236-run victory over the second 11.
Paul Stewart led the charge with a top score of 63 not out as the firsts posted 292-7. Stewart faced 56 balls and hit fours.
Korban Harrison-Allen, Jack Faulkner and Matt McNeil also featured with the bat.
Zeppo Page and Stewart’s younger brother Daniel each picked up two wickets.
But the second 11 batsmen had no answer to the pace of Ryan Nepe, who took 6-13.
