There were more than just two winning teams that featured Gisborne surf athletes at the gruelling Mount Monster long-distance surf lifesaving event at Mt Maunganui on Saturday.
A Waikanae team won the under-19 women’s section for the second year in a row.
Briana Irving did the five-kilometre beach run, Lauren
Pickett the 1.5km swim, Christy Tate the 12km ski leg, and Georgie Pitkethley the 6km board paddle.
