Midway came home from the Northern Regional surf lifesaving championships at Whangamatā at the weekend with a stack of medals with the squad producing another strong performance ahead of the nationals next month.

The club’s Under-19 athletes were in terrific form yet again, in the 1-2 metre surf conditions.

“With light winds, and decent surf, racing conditions were perfect,”  Dawson Building Midway head coach Jack Gavin said.

“Everyone raced well and it was great to build confidence leading into nationals at the Mount.”

The individual results on Day 1 ­— Emily Petro 2nd, Ella Sutton 3rd in u17 board and Yahni Brown was 1st in board, 1st in ski and 2nd in surf race u17 male.

The team results — u19 girls, Ella Sutton, Emily Petro, Alice Sparks 1st in board relay, 2nd in ski relay and 1st in taplin.

The u19 men’s Jack Lepper, Angus Blair, Tyron Evans were 1st in board relay, 1st in ski relay and 1st in taplin.

The u17 men’s were 1st in board relay and 2nd in ski relay.

Individual results on Day 2 were Jack Lepper 3rd u19 board, 3rd u19 surf race and 3rd u19 ironman.

Tyron Evans was 1st u19 surf race and 1st u19 Ironman.

Angus Blair was 2nd in u19 board, 2nd u19 surf race and 2nd u19 Ironman.

Yahni Brown was 1st in u17 Ironman.

Ella Sutton was 1st in u17 Ironwoman.

Alice Sparks was 3rd u19 board, 2nd u19 ski and 1st u19 Ironwoman.

Fin Cameron was 3rd in u17 men’s beach sprint.

The teams results in the u19 tube rescue were 1st (Angus Blair, Tyron Evans, Fin Cameron, Jack Lepper).

The u19 men’s double ski were Jack Lepper and Tyron Evans for 1st place.

The u19 women’s double ski were Ella Sutton and Alice Sparks in 1st.

“Another great day’s racing.”

Christy Tate from Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae also raced and finished seventh in the open women’s ski.

Midway scored a total 91 points, to finish third overall behind Mairangi Bay (Auckland) on 95, and Red Beach (Auckland) on 231.
