Horouta crew Eastland Heli Whitewash and Mareikura’s Nga Tama Toa collected medal doubles on day 3 of the waka ama nationals on Lake Karapiro yesterday.

Whitewash lived up to their name by winning the junior 16 men’s W6 500 and 1000 metres finals, adding these to their W12 gold (as part of the crew Blackout) from the day before.

The crew are Darius Apanui-Nepe, Kayleb Te Whare, Keanu Wainohu-Kemp, Lyric Baty-Akurangi, Manaakaio Maxwell and Tawhai Tanirau.

The Nga Tama Toa crew of Antonio Williams, Hunter Hewson, John Horua, Tawhiri Kirikiri, Uetaha Wanoa and Wiremu Maxwell won gold in the intermediate boys’ W6 500.

Earlier in the day they were part of the Nga Tama Taniwha crew who won the intermediate boys’ W12 500.

Horouta’s Hinepukohurangi won gold in the intermediate girls’ W12 500 and silver in the W6 500.

The club also picked up silver in the intermediate boys’ W6 1000 (Tamakaimoana), junior 16 women’s W6 500 (Hinehakirirangi) and junior 16 women’s W12 500 (Wahine Toa).

Today features the W1 races.
