In women’s games, GMC’s Green Machine dominated Ben Holden Fencing Ngatapa.
Anita Howard and Jade Stafford each scored hat-tricks in a 9-0 whitewash.
“It was three-nil at halftime and a third-quarter blitz of four more goals took the game completely away from Ngatapa,” Scragg said.
“The Green Machine showed why they are currently top of the table.”
Amber Dental Gisborne Girls’ High clicked into top gear to put away JNL Paikea 6-0, with braces to Ngahuia Wilson and Oaklea Bowden-Morris.
“That was a good result for the students but they may have been a bit disappointed with their second half finishing. They scored all six goals in the first half.”
GMC Kowhai were similarly superior to YMP B — the 6-1 scoreline reinforcing Kowhai’s strength and their seemingly irresistible march to the bottom-four women’s title.
“YMP B are their closest threat but that scoreline indicates there is a big gap between them,” Scragg said.
GMC Gold and Te Aowera fought out one of the more entertaining matches of the weekend.
The 2-1 scoreline in Gold’s favour was testament to the intensity of the struggle.
“It was good to see such a close game between those two teams.
“I cannot wait until the next time they play each other, with a win apiece and now a draw between them.”
Lytton Old Boys B boys took maximum points with a 2-0 win over YMP B.
“That was bit of a turnaround result for LOB,” said Scragg.
“YMP B have been playing some good hockey. The outcome will give LOB some confidence ahead of the playoffs.”
Gisborne Boys High School were made to work hard for the points in their clash with a resilient LOB Masters.
The students won 2-1 but the Masters had them sweating.
“Boys High took a 2-0 lead going into the third quarter,” said Scragg.
“The Masters pulled one back but just could not get the equaliser.”
The Masters successfully defended more than 20 penalty corners in the match.
“We wish the students well in their Super 8 campaign in Taranaki next week,” Scragg said.
